Weather Forecast Expert Yüksel: "Rising temperatures increase the risk of forest fires"

Kenan Yüksel, a weather forecaster at the Turkish State Meteorological Service, spoke to an İHA reporter about the rising temperatures. Yüksel stated that temperatures will rise another notch starting Sunday, saying, "As a result, we will be 3 to 6 degrees above seasonal norms, especially in coastal areas. We expect temperatures to be 4 to 8 degrees above seasonal norms in the southeastern regions, and 7 to 12 degrees above seasonal norms in other inland western regions. These temperatures will remain at these levels until Wednesday of next week. Therefore, it's advisable to be cautious and careful."
Yüksel also touched on the expected temperature values in major cities, saying, "Starting Sunday, temperatures in Ankara will reach 40-41 degrees. Temperatures are expected to reach 34-35 degrees in Istanbul, around 39-40 degrees in Izmir, 38-39 degrees in Antalya, and around 40 degrees in Adana."
"Our citizens should be careful against sunlight between 11:00 and 16:00"Yüksel stated that the highest temperatures are expected in the Southeastern Anatolia Region, saying, "Here in provinces like Şanlıurfa and Diyarbakır, we expect temperatures to reach 44-45 degrees Celsius, or even higher, in the city center. These temperatures we've measured two meters above the ground in the shade. These temperatures will be felt even more intensely in the sun. Therefore, we recommend that our elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses avoid excessive sun exposure, especially between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., when the sun is at its strongest."
"Rising temperatures increase the risk of forest fires"Yüksel stated that temperatures will remain quite high in the inland and western regions over the weekend, saying, "As a result, there are still areas where forest fires are ongoing. Strong winds are expected throughout the weekend, especially on Saturday, in the Marmara and Aegean regions, and even in inland areas. Due to both strong winds, high temperatures, and low humidity, the risk of forest fires remains very high in these regions. Our citizens should be cautious and careful in this situation."
